Every time I scrunch up my nose in disappointment the the state of my hands, I have to remind myself that I have the hands of a MAKER. They are not immaculate, well-manicured or anything of the sort. They have chipped nail polish, rough spots, callouses, and are full of scrapes and cuts. My hands are well-used tools of my trade.
My hands are used to make beauty. My hands are beautiful because they are skilled.
Several years ago I decided to label them as maker hands. My knuckles read “knit” & “purl.” These are the two fundamental stitches in knitting. I love knitting. I love making. I love my hands.
(My knuckle tattoos were done by Timm McKenny. He tattoos at Addictive Tattoo in Sioux City, IA.)
